"The Patmos Collection"
An Exhibition of Photographs
Zembekiko is traditionally a man's dance, probably born under the shadows of local watering
holes near a seaport frequented by sailors. In days of old, onlookers whistled and broke
the occasional plate in celebration of the dance. Today, participants throw bundles of napkins
over the dancer, to show their pleasure. In this image, taken on New Year's Eve, it seems
everyone was celebrating!
