SOULTANA HOUSE
|
This house
is renovated in keeping with traditional details. "Soultana House"
is located in Chora, Patmos facing South on the Lee side of the
island (the non-windy side).
At the "Soultana House",
you are greeted by a magnificent stone wall and a double wooden
door surrounded by hand-hewn stone mantels, which hide the secrets
of this lovely house from passers-by.
|
A rush of brilliant
pink bougainvillea greets you, as you step into the 100 square meter
"avli" and garden terrace of the "Soultana House". In
the right season, you can pick a juicy lemon from the lemon tree,
or just sit at the round table and sip a tasty "ouzo" complimented
by the lovely aroma of the "stefanoto" flowers, or gaze on the brilliant
red hibiscus. Contemplate the natural rock garden, where local cactus
bloom without a drop of summer rain.
|
LARGE TERRACE
|
Here, we say, the
garden IS the house. A wide stone bench has comfortable lounging
pillows -- you can choose to lounge under the shade of the green
arbor, or pick a spot in the sun. From this terrace, you have expansive
views to the South, East and West. In August, enjoy a cool drink
while watching the golden sun set over the Aegean sea.
|
VIEWS AND A GARDEN
|
Just a few moments
of the earliest morning sun reach under the green shaded arbor of
this terrace, covered with cool, milky white patio stones from the
nearby island of Lipsos. The terrace is very well protected from
the summer "meltemi" winds. Our bet is you'll rarely spend much
time indoors, but when you do, enter the double doors to the living room. (Soultana House underwent a major rebuilding (from the ground up) which was completed in July 2004.
|
The windows face south to Mt. Profit Elias and the Aegean Sea. The salon is separated by two hand hewn stone arches. The room is decorated with antique gravures, paintings, and other collectibles. The house has two bedrooms and two bathrooms plus a full kitchen.
|
LIVING ROOM
|
One of the bedrooms in the Main House has two single beds. They sit on a wide platform, so they can be pushed together to make a huge double bed. This room is noted for its natural stone wall, and a view to the terrace garden.
